For a number of years, former Marlow resident, Robert Nichols, has regularly researched geneaological and other topics for MHS and supplied us with many interesting finds to add to our archives. Bob has done it again in June of 2010.
He has given us copies of the original handwritten list of Marlow's Original Proprietors along with relevant information about several. He has given us a copy large map of Marlow included in the rare Jones' book, the privately printed Notes on Marlow, New Hampshire. He also donated copies of old photos of Marlow's Giffin family, a Sentinel article on Marlow's devastating 1916 fire which burned half of Main St., maps of Baker Corner and the Marlow Hill Common area, and maps showing the old road numbers in Marlow which will help us clarify property references.
Bob is always ready to take on a new challeging question. Thank you Bob, for your dilegent research and generous help. |

Huge applause to Bob for his continued and valuable support of MHS! If within those maps there are references or clues as to where the RAYMOND property might be, I would love to hear about it. When I made a visit to Marlow a year or more ago, we could not determine where the homestead may have been. The Raymonds of interest are:
Jonathan, died Marlow 28 June 1798 [had come from Beverly Mass.]
Jonathan's son John, died Marlow 14 May 1863 - John's wife Lydia Davis died Marlow 4 May 1867. John and Lydia lived in Marlow raising their 5 children: Jonathan 1819-1905 removed to Savoy Mass; George Sumner 1821-1900 removed to Keene NH; Elmina 1822-1893 married Amos Gould removed to Weare NH; Selina 1824-1895 married John Scribner appeared to stay in Marlow; Celinda 1827-1897 no marriage found appears to stay in Marlow. As always, thanks for the forum as a way of learning about so many aspects of the past. |
